Regional climate modelling assessment tools and their applications in the Arab region: from science to policymaking

The present online training course aims to advance the "transition from climate science to climate policymaking" by empowering officials and stakeholders in the Arab region to use regional climate modelling outputs in evidence-based decision-making.

The course reviews the integrated methodology of the Regional Initiative for the Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources and Socioeconomic Vulnerability in the Arab Region (RICCAR), including its two geographical domains (the Arab domain and the Mashreq domain). It also examines the transition from global climate models to regional climate models, introduces climate change scenarios, and explains how climate data can be converted into maps for assessing economic and social vulnerability.

This course was developed through a strategic partnership between the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) to support climate action efforts across the 22 Arab countries.
